Congratulations Matthew Hoffman!
Congratulations to Matthew Hoffman on being awarded a SAREP grant to study wineries in Lodi as an extension of the sustainable viticulture program. He is already trying to expand this to a statewide study. Here is the info on the grant:
Abstract: Value-based supply chains are regionally focused agricultural production, processing, and distribution systems that produce value-added agricultural products. The establishment of value-based supply chains has the potential to positively impact rural livelihoods and natural resource stewardship. Adding value to regional crops requires that practitioners invent and adopt appropriate methods. Social learning among practitioners is an important aspect of value-based supply chain development. This study employs social network theories and analysis, and partners with the Lodi Winegrape Commission to undertake applied research with two goals. 1) Gain an empirical understanding of the role social learning is playing in the establishment of Lodi, CA's growing viticulture and winery value-based supply chain. 2) Provide background research to strengthen a 2012 Western SARE grant application to fund a the implementation and evaluation of a social learning outreach and education pilot program targeting human capital development in Lodi value-based agriculture.
