Position Title
PhD Student | Graduate Group in Ecology
I investigate human interactions with the environment through environmental science and policy, focusing particularly on governance systems and decision-making. My research employs rigorous social science methods to tackle complex environmental issues and develop inclusive solutions that reflect diverse community experiences.
Currently, my dissertation centers on the governance of emerging technologies, with a particular emphasis on hydrogen energy. Through comprehensive studies, I explore how local governments, agencies, and communities navigate the opportunities and challenges related to hydrogen adoption. This work aims to inform equitable policy frameworks that support sustainable and innovative energy transitions.
My academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications and Journalism from California State University, Fresno, where I cultivated a passion for storytelling and public engagement. This foundation led me to earn a Master of Science in Environmental Policy and Management from the University of California, Davis, where I honed my skills in policy analysis and stakeholder engagement. I am now pursuing a PhD in Ecology at UC Davis, focusing on governance and decision-making, striving to bridge the gap between science and policy through interdisciplinary research.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I have built a diverse professional portfolio covering research, policy, public affairs, and journalism. I have led strategic communications for both environmental agencies and private companies, fostering partnerships and enhancing organizational visibility. My policy analysis and consulting experience have deepened my understanding of stakeholder engagement and regional sustainable planning. In journalism, I refined my investigative skills and remained committed to amplifying underrepresented voices, reporting on critical issues at the intersection of health, environment, and community.
Through advanced coursework in topics such as environmental policy processes, regulatory frameworks, and climate science, I have developed a robust set of skills. I am proficient in R for quantitative research and have strong project and team management experience. This foundation enables me to conduct comprehensive policy analysis, apply both quantitative and qualitative research methods, and effectively translate complex research findings into actionable insights for diverse audiences.
These experiences shape my approach as a researcher, communicator, and advocate for effective and inclusive environmental policies. As a first-generation female researcher of Hispanic heritage, I offer a unique perspective and a strong commitment to impactful, equitable environmental governance. I believe that successful policy must be informed by rigorous research and, most importantly, the voices of those most affected.
