Bio
Julia Alaimo is a PhD student in the Graduate Group of Ecology, with an emphasis in Agricultural and Human Ecology. With a background in Environmental Engineering and four years of experience working on food systems and climate programming in local and federal government and non-profit sectors, she brings an interdisciplinary perspective to questions of food, agriculture, and sustainability. Her research is driven by an interest in the connections between climate change, agricultural practices, food quality, and human health. She is particularly interested in how different approaches to agriculture influence the nutrient density of food crops, and how policies and governance can help create food systems that support environmental sustainability, nutritious food, and human health. In her spare time you can find her filling up her many jars at the food co-op or on a long bike ride.
